Inspire me Monday / fine dining

The dining table/dining room is without a doubt a favourite space of mine. I simply cannot resist beautiful tables and chairs, pendant lights and rugs; the essential elements (in my opinion) for the creation of the perfect dining area. Dining tables/rooms often act as work spaces in today's way of life and therefore they need to be sturdy, well designed and practical. With a great range available on the market, price is often what dictates the choice. Luckily we don't need to spend a small fortune anymore to own a beautiful piece of furniture, nowadays a lot of stores have successfully launched a range of good quality, reasonably priced products which have been well received by all of us.
Bottom line: we now no longer need to sacrifice style and quality for a smaller price tag.
A variety of looks can be achieved. Here's my small selection of favourite dining rooms from around the globe. Simplicity is the key.

Winter warmth

Winter is here no doubt about it...mornings and nights are chilly, the socks and electric blankets are out, the heater is on...
If your home is still feeling and looking a little bit too cold though it might just need a couple of warm touches here and there, some warm colours, some texture perhaps, and I guarantee you'll be all toasty and happy.

Here are some tips to stay warm at home this winter:

1) Roll out your rugs, or swap sisal for wool (trust me you need that extra warmth underfoot);

2) Collect some fire wood it's time to light that fire...(pictures, magazines and books are a great way to cosy up a space too);

3) Cover those windows! Curtains and blinds are essential in winter, not only they will dress up the room, they will keep it super toasty too;

4) Paint your walls a shade of grey...It's such a great winter neutral! Use it as a starting point for your winter palette, it's smart and it works well with a lot of different hues;

5) Add a colourful rug under your dining table and a runner in the hallway for instant warmth and a welcoming feeling;

6) Invest in some gorgeous sheepskin for your dining chairs...they are soft to the touch and super warm and comfy (now that's what I call an instant warmer);

7) Throw a cosy, chunky knit blanket on your bed, for extra warmth (oh so chic too);

 8) If the budget allows have a couple of your favourite chairs re-upholstered in a warm hue (like orange or cherry or a gorgeous fabric) - or simply add cushions in a warm shade and some tick woollen blankets to your lounges and armchairs for instant warmth and comfort.

Putting a moodboard together is the easiest way to get started on a new scheme/project
Hunting and gathering (in my opinion) is one of life's simple pleasures
there's something magical about finding, discovering
and collecting.
This top board contains a collection of feminine elements, a neutral based scheme with a pop of pink/cherry and some copper

 The board below started as a simple green scheme and slowly evolved into a slightly more sophisticated one.
Adding and taking away layers is part of the creative process.
It's a great way to collect ideas, reflect upon the design and explore a couple of different avenues before committing to the final scheme.

Green with envy

Beautiful green accents sit triumphant in the spaces above - a feast for the eyes.
Especially loving the spectacular green floor (green tiles laid in a beautiful diamond pattern), the 'plates' feature wall, the green dining table and the green couch.
(images from my inspiration file - collected over the years from my favourite blogs and sites)
Lots of gorgeous ideas for the home renovator.

Enjoy this beautiful day.
